OREANDA-NEWS. May 25, 2012. Baltic Workboats, a company belonging to Estonian capital that builds aluminum boats, is building five boats for the Swedish Coast Guard at the total cost of 17 million euros; the first boat will be handed over to the Swedes on Saaremaa Island on Thursday.

The sum total of the contract signed with the Swedish Coast Guard is 17 million euros, of which the price of one boat is 3.4 million and the company will hand over the last boat to the Swedes in 2013, Baltic Workboats said.

All the five boats are 26.5 meters long with 6.2 meter beams and they can travel at speeds of up to 32 knots. New technical solutions that make its possible bigger economy, helping to save up to 40 percent fuel were used in building the boats, the company said. The Swedish Coast Guard will be using the ships in guarding the border, and in police, migration, rescue and customs work.

The boats were designed and built by Baltic Workboat engineers, who drew up their special design of in the course of consultations that lasted nearly a year, upon which building work started in November 2010.
