OREANDA-NEWS. May 28, 2012. Mitsubishi Motors Corporation today announced global production, as well as domestic sales and export figures for April 2012.
 
Production: global total and Japan
 Total global production for April 2012 came in at 74,586 units, 23.3 percent up over the same month last year and the first consecutive monthly increase since March 2012. Production volume in Japan at 39,056 units was 42.1 percent up year on year and the first consecutive monthly increase since March 2012. Passenger car output for the month at 33,828 units was 43.2 percent up and commercial vehicle output at 5,228 units was 35.6 percent up respectively over April 2011.
 
Sales in Japan
 Vehicle sales in Japan in April 2012 totaled 7,913 units, 9.0 percent down on the same month last year and the first monthly year-on-year decrease in five months since November 2011. Sales of passenger cars at 5,659 units were 9.3 percent down and sales of commercial vehicles at 2,254 units were 8.4 percent down respectively over April 2011. Registered vehicle sales volume at 2,284 units was 35.0 percent down on the same month last year. Minicar sales volume at 5,629 units was 8.6 percent up over April 2011.
 
Production overseas
 Overseas production volume in April totaled 35,530 units, 7.6 percent up over the same month last year and the second consecutive monthly year-on-year increase since February 2012. By region, output in Asia at 30,753 units was 23.6 percent up, boosted chiefly by a 34.8 percent increase at MMTh (18,918 units) as it strives to catch up on production lost due to last year's flooding and with the start of production of the new Mirage model in Thailand. Output in China1 at 1,975 units was 22.1 percent down year on year. In North America, output at 2,332 units was 22.8 percent down over the same month last year. In Europe, output at 1,815 units was 0.5 percent down. In South America output at 630 units was 78.6 percent down on April 2011 due to production schedule adjustments.

Export shipments from Japan
 Total exports from Japan of 26,453 units in April were 35.7 percent up on the same month in 2011, marking the first monthly year-on-year increase since July 2011. Exports to Asia at 1,249 units were 45.6 percent down on April 2011. Shipments to North America at 5,547 units were 188.9 percent up over April 2011 when they had been severely disrupted by the effects of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Exports to Europe at 11,120 units were 12.0 percent up over April 2011 when they had been disrupted by the effects of the Great East Japan Earthquake.
