OREANDA-NEWS. May 28, 2012. Qatar Petroleum sponsored a total of seven students from Qatar University for them to attend the 8th Middle East Refining and Petrochemicals Conference & Exhibition (Petrotech 2012), which was held at the Bahrain International Convention and Exhibition Centre on May 20-23.

Organized by the Arabian Exhibition Management and supported by a committee of representatives from regional and international oil & gas companies including QP, Petrotech 2012 attracted the participation of over 100 companies from more than 20 countries worldwide.

For this year’s edition of the event, the conference committee had introduced a program to encourage the participation of talented university students taking up engineering in the GCC region. Their attendance in the conference gave the students an opportunity to benefit from the experience of more than 60 international speakers whose presentations focused on the theme, "Creating Value: Technology, Investment & People.” The Petrotech 2012 conference also provided the students with an important learning experience as they exchanged views with industry experts in the oil and gas sector.

The students had a full schedule during the four-day conference, during which they also visited the refinery facilities of the Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO) for a two-hour tour. They all attended the opening session of the conference as well as the event’s welcome dinner.

QU also took part in the exhibition with a stand manned by the QP-sponsored students. This enabled them to discuss their views and interact with visitors who shared their interest. The sponsored students all agreed that they had a very good experience at Petrotech 2012 and they all look forward to participating again in similar events in the future.
