OREANDA-NEWS. May 31, 2012. Recently, pipeline steel coil X80 with design ratio of 0.8 for project West-East natural gas transmission line 3 has been successfully trial-produced in Wisco for the first time. Inspection result demonstrates the steel is characterized by high strength, high toughness, low brittle transition temperature, high yield strength and tensile strength.

Pipeline steel coil X80 with design ratio of 0.72 for project West-East natural gas transmission line 2 has its actual transmission capability lagging behind the energy demand by current economy. CNPC(ЃiChina National Petroleum CorporationЃj attempts to improve transmission capability of pipeline, and schedules test section pavement for spiral submerged-arc welding pipe X80 with design ratio of 0.8 in line 3 of project West-East natural gas transmission.

Steel X80 with design ratio of 0.8 used in line 3 is facing rigorous technical requirements as follow: minimum impact energy must be increased from 240J to 280J, steel performance examination frequency must be raised, and impurity must not exceed standard, as well as performances at coil head, centre and end must be stable with small difference.

By aid of long term leading position and well reputation in the field of pipeline steel at home, Wisco has become one of a few steelmakers, selected by CNPC to be qualified as primary suppliers. And only after success of single heat and batch trial production, Wisco can get contract orders. Confronting such fierce competition, Wisco scientific research staffs rose up to challenge, and shouldered heavy burden, proactively addressing market challenges. They conducted optimization design for X80 composition and production process as per requirements by the steel grade and CNPC, completed whole procedure tracking from steel making to rolling, and achieved trial production for pipeline steel X80 with design ratio of 0.8 firstly in a short period.
