OREANDA-NEWS. June 1, 2012. RusHydro presented Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Protocol at the Social Forum on Sustainable Development, conducted under the aegis of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation.

Participants in the Forum included representatives of UNEP, Moscow office of UNDP and Institute for sustainable development of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation.

The Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Protocol is being jointly developed by the International Hydropower Association, The Nature Conservancy, World Bank and World Wildlife Fund.

RusHydro joined the effort of developing the Protocol in 2009 together with Non-Commercial Partnership "Hydropower of Russia" and Russian independent experts in the field of environment and sociology.

RusHydro is planning to actively promote the Protocol.  In the 2012 the Protocol will be presented to government structures, NGOs and business community.  During 2012-2013 the Protocol will be tested in pilot regime: one of RusHydro projects will be assessed from the point of view of compliance with sustainable development criteria.
