OREANDA-NEWS. June 15, 2012. At Lotte Hotel in Sogong-dong, Seoul, CEO Chung Joonyang received the `44th Annual Manager of Korea Award` by Korea Management Association, reported the press-centre of POSCO. 

CEO Chung Joon-yang was recognized for pursuing qualitative growth with firm grounds based on open management, creative management, and environmental management since taking office in 2009. Also, he was well evaluated for `Marketing 3.0` which revitalizes internal communication at work, and `Claim-zero Management` which appeals to clients` spirits emphasizing the voice of customers and making efforts to achieve shared growth with clients. In addition, he has been proactively practicing shared development with small and medium companies through the benefit sharing system, expanding customized technology support programs for small and medium companies, and launching the POSCO Family officer Shared Growth Support Team.

POSCO which is now in the second term of CEO Chung Joon-yang`s management is planning to become a specialized company spanning the steel, comprehensive material, and energy fields going beyond the current scope as a steel company. At first, in order to strengthen competitiveness in the existing steel market, CEO Chung Joon-yang has led completion of the Gwangyang steel plate factory, FINEX factory 3, and steel technology leadership by localizing core equipment such as the laser welder and measuring instruments. Also, he has expanded overseas steel projects continuously such as establishment of Indonesia integrated steel works so as to become a global top 3 steel company.

POSCO is steadily progressing in growing its materials business as well. POSCO plan to secure its competitiveness through vertical integration from raw materials to materials and parts, and early advance in prospective materials. And the company plans to expand into the future materials business by expanding the portfolio from ferroalloy and non-alloy steel to nonferrous refining and plate materials.

The `Manager of Korea Award` first started in 1969 by the Korea

Management Association selects and announces a manager who has led economic development in Korea each year, contributing to forming a proper manager image, and is recognized as the top award for its history and prestige. This year, candidate recommendations were made by a recommendation council consisting of 900 prominent figures in each field and opinion leaders, and the evaluation committee selected the grand prize awardee.

Previously on May 31st, CEO Chung Joon-yang also received the CEO division of the `2012 National Competitiveness Award.` Hosted by the Korea Management Evaluation Institute and Seoul Economic Daily, and sponsored by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Ministry of Land, Transportation and Maritime Affairs, Presidential Council on National Competitiveness, and the Baeksang Economic Research Institute, the National Competitiveness Awards is in its 4th year, awarding companies, public institutions, and CEOs that have contributed to increasing national competitiveness through management innovation.
