OREANDA-NEWS. June 20, 2012. Air Astana, Kazakhstan’s international flag carrier launched its eighth route to Russia today, with the introduction of a new twice weekly service from the capital, Astana to the historic city of St. Petersburg using an Embraer 190, reported the press-centre of Air Astana.   

 The airline has been operating on the route from Almaty to St. Petersburg twice weekly since December 2010 using an Airbus A320. Air Astana currently operates to six destinations in Russia, including Kazan, Moscow, Novosibirsk, St. Peterburg, Samara and Yekaterinburg.

“Increasing popularity and demand for air service from Astana to St. Peterburg, the northern capital of the Russian Federation lead to the launch of this new service. Now citizens of St. Petersburg and Astana can fly directly with Air Astana saving their money and time. It is expected that direct flight will further stimulate the development of economic, socio-political and cultural co-operation between the two countries”, comments Dmitriy Kaparulin, Regional General Manager CIS for Air Astana.

The new service from Astana to St. Petersburg is being launched as part of the airline’s 10th anniversary. As part of this achievement, Air Astana is offering its passengers nine new international destinations. Earlier this year the airline launched new services from Astana to Tashkent and Baku, as well as from Almaty to Kazan. During the second half of 2012 new services will begin from Astana to Beijing, Omsk and Tbilisi, as well as from from Almaty to Hong Kong and from Atyrau to Moscow.
