OREANDA-NEWS. June 20, 2012. In early June, Domodedovo Airport became the first Russian airport, which tested an automatic Self Boarding Gate system. As part of the pilot project, implemented by the aviation hub in partnership with SITA, two turnstiles were installed in the domestic departure area, for the passengers of the airport to assess the usability of which in the next three months.

‘Introduction of new technologies in the field of passenger service is one of the priorities in our work, - said Igor Borisov, Airport Director. - This allows to continuously improving the quality of services, and our passengers appreciate it: the third year in a row they call Domodedovo Airport the best airport in Eastern Europe.’

The Self Boarding Gate system has spread in airports in Europe (Vienna, Frankfurt and etc.), U.S. and the Pacific Region countries due to its convenience and ease of use. All a passenger needs to do is to put the boarding pass to the bar code scanner on a turnstile of the Self Boarding Gate: if it is the boarding pass for the serviced flight, the gate will open automatically. Thus, air travelers can rapidly - a turnstile serves up to 15 people per minute - and comfortably go through the procedure of boarding control.

After testing the turnstiles installed, a final decision on the development of the automated Self Boarding Gate system at Domodedovo Airport will be made. The aviation hub passengers are invited to share their opinions and suggestions on the technical innovations with our Feedback Service at http://www.domodedovo.ru/ru/main/feedback.
