OREANDA-NEWS. June 29, 2012. TRL Krosaki Refractories installed the second lift irrigation point in Kureimal village in Lakhanpur block on June 22, 2012. This has been done under the company’s CSR programme named Upaj that has been taken up by the community development and social welfare department of TRL Krosaki to provide irrigation facility to villagers. This facility will irrigate 150 acres of land and benefit 135 families, including 66 Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) families of the village. The project has been completed at a cost of Rs17 lakh. The project consists of two 20 hp water pumps, a concrete pump-house, electrical fittings and about a kilometer long pipeline to draw water from the source. The facility will help the villagers reap a second and third crop. Earlier, the company had provided an irrigation facility in this village which is irrigating 90 acres of land.

Anup Kumar Sai, MLA, Brajarajnagar, along with Dr Arup Kumar Chattopadhyay, managing director, TRL Krosaki, inaugurated the project on June 22, 2012, in presence of the villagers. Mr Sai praised the villagers for their culture and efforts with particular appreciation for forming the first Farmers Club in the district. In his address, Dr Chattopadhyay expressed his desire for mutual cooperation from the villagers and assured appropriate support from the company in years to come. Iswar Barik, an eminent villager of Kureimal, gave a brief note on the relationship of Kuremal and TRL Krosaki. Duryodhan Sahu delivered the welcome address and Dhanamani Barik proposed the vote of thanks. A number of senior executives from the company and villagers were present at the inauguration function.

The main source of income for Kureimal village comes from agriculture. The company, in addition to providing various facilities to the village since 1978, conducted agriculture training programmes for the villagers. The villagers are now using modern agriculture techniques like tissue-culture to growing bananas, vegetables and pulses. They supply their yield to various places, including Chattisgarh and Delhi. Faced with water scarcity in many of the farmlands, the villagers approached the company. The company took up the project on July 5, 2011, and took 10 months to complete it.

In addition to providing irrigation projects, TRL Krosaki had also conducted an agriculture training programme in association with District Agriculture and Horticulture Department, a quality of life programme through CBWE. Rourkela, provided a bore well for drinking water, conducted skill development programmes in stitching, mesoning, etc for the village's youths, provided financial support to one SC student for studying, health camps and adult literacy programmes.
