OREANDA-NEWS. July 09, 2012. In June of 2012 a group of entrepreneurs from Norway representing the international fishing enterprise Sjovik AS Olav Sjovik, Operational Director, Ove Kanestrom, Financial Director, and Daniel Sjovik, Business Development Director, visited the Republic of Karelia.

This trip had a direct bearing on implementation of the joint project focused on strengthening and development of cooperation between Norwegian companies and fisheries at the support of the Government of the Republic of Karelia in renewal of the fishing fleet of Karelia.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fish and Hunting Industry of the Republic of Karelia hosted a working meeting chaired by Grigory Manuilov, acting Minister of Agriculture, Fish and Hunting Industry, with the management of Sjovik AS, with the participation of V.Azhogin, CEO of the Non-Commercial Partnership Northwest Fisheries Association, and I.Kolish, Director General of Karelian Seafoods Inc.

During the meeting the first stage of the investment project of purchasing of a modernized vessel by Karelian Seafoods Inc. was summed up, possibilities of mobilization of investments in projects of renewal of the fishing fleet of entreprises registered in the Republic of Karelia were discussed.

The public corporation of Karelian Seafoods was founded in 1998 according to the program of modernizarion of the fishing fleet of the Republic of Karelia.

Karelian Seafoods Inc. has a fishing factory trawler Karelia II used to catch ground fish, such as cod, haddock, pollack, halibut, perch, etc. in the area of Northeast Atlantic. Onboard of the factory trawler during the day it is processed from 30 to 40 tons of raw fish on the average, and fresh frozen fish fillets, canned cod liver, fresh frozen fish and fish flour are manufactured. Undoubtedly, future of the fishing fleet belongs to such vessels providing 100 percent of raw material processing, i.e.nonwaste production. The output of the enterprise is famous for its high quality and is in demand both in the home, and in the foreign market.

One of the factors sustaining the level of performance is the presence of the 'EU number' which is a kind of the admission to the European market.

Karelian Seafoods Inc. possesses a huge experience of cooperation with international and Russian investors and has a sufficient potential for implementation of programs of development of the fishing fleet of the RK. The project of organization of manufacture of fish flour, cod-liver oil, as well as surimi made of unvaluable fish breeds prepared by experts of the company has gained support at the regional level and is included in the Federal target program Increase of Utilization and Development of Resource Potential of the Fisheries Industry in 2009-2013.

Karelian Seafoods Inc. together with its Norwegian partners participates in implementation of projects focused on more effective processing and output of products of high quality.

Successful implementation of the project is a vivid example of fruitful international cooperation between the entrepreneurs from Karelia and Norway in the sphere of modernization and renewal of the Russian fishing fleet.
