OREANDA-NEWS. July 10, 2012. Head of State Customs Service Igor Kaletnik took part in the session of the Council of the World Customs Organization, which took place in Brussels.

The meeting participants emphasized that the current customs authorities have long been not just a structure that collects taxes at the border. Today, Customs protects the economic interests of the country and domestic producers, works with entrepreneurs in order to simplify and speed up customs procedures. And a guarantee that the country will get only high quality and safe products, and the interaction of members of the World Customs Organization in the direction of simplification and harmonization of customs procedures - Ensure that dynamic will develop a business in their countries. After all, in order to cross the border was as fast as possible and not lost effective control, customs legislation and customs procedures should be harmonized on both sides of the border. And Ukraine has taken another step towards European standards in customs.

In Brussels, Head of the State Customs Service Ihor Kaletnik handed the head of the General Department of Taxation Commission Hans Zurek a letter, signed by First vice Prime Minister Valeriy Khoroshkovskyi to the members of the European Commission on Taxation, Customs Union, Audit and Anti-Fraud Algirdas Gediminas Shemet. So the European side has received the text of the Strategic Framework for Customs Cooperation. Thus, the parties concluded an exchange of letters, and the Strategic Framework came into force.

"It is, above all, that Ukraine is committed to bring its legislation in the area of customs policy to the EU standards. And we have done this successfully. I want to emphasize that all the main provisions of the Strategic Framework for cooperation in customs have already been implemented in the new Customs Code of Ukraine. The implementation of the strategy will begin in the near future" - said the head of the State Customs Service Igor Kaletnik during a meeting with Secretary General of the World Customs Organization Kunio Mikuriya.

Kunio Mikuriya noted the progress of Ukrainian Customs on the path of modernization, as well as the positive assessment of the international community, the new Customs Code of Ukraine.
