OREANDA-NEWS. July 10, 2012. In June 2012 within the framework of the international forum-exhibition ‘Technology in the Machinery Manufacturing', for the first time ever the full-scale PD-14 mock-up aero-engine was represented for the attention of experts.

The development of the fifth generation engines based on the unified core is performed in accordance with the ‘Development of the Civil Aviation Technology of Russia for 2002 - 2010 and for the period of until 2015' federal target programme. The principal target of the Programme is the capture of no less than 10% of the worldwide market of aero-engines rated at 9 to 18 tons.

The general developer of the PD-14 is Aviadvigatel OJSC. The development of engines for the MS-21 aircraft is the top-priority project of United Engine Corporation. The PD-14 is a new-generation engine which is the baseline one for developing the whole family of high-performance engines for civil and transport aviation as well as for the ground application.

The mock-up PD-14 was represented at the exhibition stand of Russian Technologies State Corporation. At the stand the videocommunication with the Aviadvigatel test bench was arranged as well wherein currently the technology demonstrator engine has been tested. Thus visitors of the exhibition had a unique opportunity to see the real engine and its mock-up together.

Minister of industry and trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov who visited the exposition, during a conversation with Aviadvigatel OJSC General Designer Alexander Inozemtsev noted with satisfaction that the Engines for the MS-21 Aircraft Project had been implemented right on time, congratulated engine builders with another professional breakthrough and wished further successes.

Just before the presentation of the PD-14, Aviacapital-Service Leasing Company and Irkut State Corporation signed the firm agreement for the delivery of 35 MS-21 passenger aircraft powered with the PD-14. According to the head of Aviacapital-Service Roman Pakhomov, these aircraft will be delivered within the period of 2022 to 2025.

Besides the full-scale PD-14 mock-up, at the exhibition components of the bypass, the thrust reverser and the nozzle of the PS-90A2 aero-engine made of polymer composites were represented. The use of polymers instead of metal provides the significant saving of the engine weight.
