OREANDA-NEWS. July 10, 2012. Representatives of the American consulting company IHS CERA visited Novovoronezh NPP. The goal was to familiarize with the fundamental principles of operation and construction of NPPs to the Russian design. In the working tour the guests were accompanied by the staff of the Nuclear Power Complex Directorate of ROSATOM.

Novovoronezh NPP is the first nuclear power plant visited by representatives of IHS CERA in this country. During the familiarization visit the foreigners toured to all power units of the operating Novovoronezh plant, including decommissioned Units 1 and 2, and the construction site of Novovoronezh Phase Two.

At the operating plant the foreign guests were interested, primarily, in safety issues of one of the oldest nuclear power plants in the world, training of the personnel, and decommissioning of Units 1 and 2.

Then, on the site of Novovoronezh Phase Two under construction they toured to the turbine hall, Units 1 and 2 reactor buildings and were briefed on the progress of construction of the dome and installation of the reactor pressure vessel at Unit 1. Heads and specialists of related structural divisions of the plant gave comprehensive answers to the foreign guests’ questions.

I am very impressed by the approach of the personnel to their work. The NPP employees treat their work as the apple of their eye. My main conclusion after this visit is that the opinion, which is circulated today about the Russian nuclear industry in the West does not have a real confirmation, Christopher de Vere Walker, IHS CERA Research Director for the Russian and Caspian power sectors and markets, said. Our work deals with making strategic decisions in energy across the world, and we hope that we will assist ROSATOM in implementation of its global plans, he said.
