OREANDA-NEWS. July 10, 2012. Tata Power's subsidiary Coastal Gujarat Power Limited (CGPL) implementing its 4000 MW Mundra Ultra Mega Power Project has undertaken several green initiatives to conserve the environment in and around it's project. In a recent campaign towards reduction in usage of plastic bag in Mundra region CGPL conducted an education session for its employees including workmen, families and villagers to create awareness on the harmful impact of plastic bag on the environment.

In CGPL's Ashiyana Township, currently accommodating around 165 members and contractual workers, 'No plastic campaign' has been initiated. Appeal has been made to families of employees including workmen by CGPL Administration team to stop using plastic carry bags and opt for eco friendly and bio degradable bags.

Speaking on the campaign Mr. K.K Sharma, Chief-Mundra Project said "We are delighted with the success of this initiative, the response received has been very positive. We would like to thank the township members for all their support and co-operation. We will continue organizing such initiatives for conservation of the environment".

Taking a lead in this direction, effective from 1st July, 2012, Township shop and cafeteria have been persuaded not to offer plastic carry bag to the customers. As an alternative, provision of reusable bags has been made on chargeable basis at the shop. To ensure successful implementation, CGPL has taken massive awareness programs at the township. It includes displaying posters at the prominent locations, imparting lectures to the residents, staff and workers, and workshop on making paper bag which was attended by staff and workers. The response received by this campaign is spectacular and the support of the Township residents is commendable.
