OREANDA-NEWS. July 12, 2012. Secom Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President: Shuji Maeda), operating through its medical services subsidiary Secom Medical System Co., Ltd. ([headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President: Tatsuro Fuse), has entered into a business alliance with Toyota Tsusho Corporation (headquarters: Nakamura-ku, Nagoya; President: Jun Karube) and the Kirloskar Group (India) to establish Takshasila Hospitals Operating Private Limited. In April 2013, the joint-venture company will open the doors to a new general hospital in Bangalore, the capital of southwestern Indian state of Karnataka. The hospital will be the first in India to be operated jointly by Japanese and Indian corporations.

The present venture was planned by Toyota Tsusho, which envisioned the development of a roughly 300-bed general hospital in Bangalore with the Kirloskar Group, its business partner in India. Secom Medical System joined the two companies, bringing to the table its expertise in hospital operations.

Many countries around the world are faced with an urgent need to provide quality healthcare services and alleviate inequality in access to healthcare. In Asia, there is a need to improve the quality of healthcare services by working to replenish the number and quality of healthcare facilities and overhaul the education system for healthcare professionals.

Secom Medical System, in pursuit of the Secom Group's mission of providing security and peace of mind to our daily lives, has collaborated with 18 hospitals and clinics to provide communities in Japan with top-level healthcare services. The company is also actively engaged in medical safety, infection control, and risk management, and strives to give patients better healthcare services by raising the quality of healthcare through improved education and training programs for hospital staff.

Takshasila Hospitals Operating Private Limited will conduct high-quality and efficient operations at the new hospital in India while drawing on Secom Medical System’s long-developed expertise in the field. It will provide high-level medical systems using the latest equipment and cutting-edge medical technology, focus its resources on educating hospital staff on nursing care and other skills, and offer services unlike those available at existing hospitals in India.

Toyota Tsusho has been leveraging its global network and quick business deployment capabilities to develop healthcare-related businesses. It has invested in medical device manufacturer, and in April 2012 it established its Life & Medical Business Development Department, a department focused on advancing the corporation's healthcare and pharmaceutical businesses. By taking a capital stake in the general hospital business in India, Toyota Tsusho will seek to amass expertise in the healthcare field and explore other opportunities for business expansion.

The Kirloskar Group in this arrangement will make the most of its extensive network in India to coordinate a range of essential activities, including communication with administrative authorities, land development and hospital construction, and recruiting human resources.

The hospital scheduled to open in April 2013 will be a general hospital with a special focus on neurosurgical and orthopedic care, and will also have an adjoining trauma center that will be able to accommodate the rise in local traffic accidents. In the future, the three companies hope to launch other hospitals in India following development of the current project.
