OREANDA-NEWS. July 12, 2012. A joint meeting of Presidium of National Academy ofSciences (NAS) of Ukraineand Scientific andtechnical council of ANTONOVCompany under the chairmanship of Boris Paton, academician, President of NAS of Ukraine, was conducted at ANTONOV Company. NAS of Ukraine and ANTONOV are related with many years traditions of  creative cooperation and considerable results in solution of many scientific, engineering and technical tasks in the interests of aviation branch of Ukraine. In particular, they solved jointly a number of urgent production tasks, including those in a sphere of aviation material technology, structural strength of the airplanes integrally and their separate elements, aerodynamics, electronic technique and many others. This joint meeting was devoted to discussion of these results and working out of new directions of scientific and technical cooperation.

Members of Presidium of NAS of Ukraine visited a final assembly shop of “ANTONOV Serial plant”, where the AN 148 and AN 158 regional jets are being built. These airplanes embody many joint scientific achievements of ANTONOV and NASU including working out of general aerodynamics layout of the airplanes, systems of lightning protection, conduction of strengthen tests on collision with birds during a flight, use of composite materials.  On a basis of the institute of hydraulic mechanics a stand on research of emergency alighting of the aircraft on water using models was designed. Practical tests were conducted using the AN 158 model.

In his report D.Kiva, President of ANTONOV Company, academician of NAS of Ukraine, noted: “Development of applied aviation science is one of the main current tasks. We can provide new “AN” airplanes with high level of competitiveness in the market, their successful operation and effective after sale support  developing and using the most innovative technologies only. Every year our specialists carry out about 200 scientific researches, and we are very grateful to scientists of the institutions of Academy of Sciences for participation in solution of actual tasks”.

B.Paton, President of NASU, highly appreciated scientific potential of the Company. In particular, he said: “At present, in the territory of former Soviet Union, ANTONOV is one of the foremost enterprises in a sphere of aircraft building. Things we have seen today showed the enterprise development. Academy is ready to continue our successful cooperation. Great  attention will be paid to new materials and improvement of technology of manufacturing details of them”.
