OREANDA-NEWS. July 16, 2012. Tata Power in line with its philosophy of strengthening the education system in and around its project, through its subsidiary Coastal Gujarat Project Ltd (CGPL) announced another landmark with its ‘Project Sujaan’ at Mundra. The project which was aimed towards formalising education system through the added value of computer literacy has been successful in educating more than 900 students in Mundra, Kutch.

For more than a year now ‘Project Sujaan’ through its various collaborative ways has helped students to actively participate and familiarize themselves with computer literacy and education. The project initiated learning stations in the villages, where they were imparted trainings on innovations in technology hardware / software design and cognitive. Project Sujaan has made a significant contribution to improving elementary education and life skills of children across Mundra.

The project also commenced community mobilization through interaction, displaying video and photographs in order to creating a sense of belonging among the children. Orientation program were undertaken to familiarise students with computer usage and trouble-shooting. The children were monitored and evaluated on their achievement levels in computer literacy, English, mathematics and social sciences, besides their life skills.

The project is being implemented by CGPL through an agreement with the Hole–in-the-Wall Education Ltd (Hiwell), a joint venture of NIIT Ltd and the International Finance Corporation (art of the World Bank Group) to set up, operate and monitor the evaluation of the learning stations for a period of three years.

Commenting on the implementation of ‘Project Sujaan’, Mr K K Sharma, Chief-Mundra Project said “It gives us immense pride to announce this achievement which has helped children to find a new meaning to their lives. Project Sujaan is a unique initiative and we are happy that it has enhanced education of many students in Mundra, Kutch. We are delighted with the program since it has helped children to learn, observe, replicate and understand interactive methods of teaching. We aim to reach every student and teacher in the community.”

Kiosks “Sujaan Project” was launched in the Gujarat government-sponsored “Kanya Kelavani Program” (a state government-sponsored program to enroll their children in formal education).

'Project Sujaan' is amongst one of the many of CGPL’s community initiatives; the others include, grazing land mitigation and providing fodder for (3000) cattle in villages applauded by the national and state authorities; Self Help Group initiative providing support to 227 women of the villages by initiating microfinance activity and health management comprising of prevention of blindness programme reaching out to 244 people. CGPL with the assistance of grass root NGO also implemented Project 'Uttkarsh', a holistic community development program catering to the needs of the community through their active participation. Uttkarsh is giving impetus to Safe drinking water by installing RO plants, rural energy and water management by construction of check dams, creation of Adarsh Agwanwadi, and establishment of milk collection centers, activities related to farming and drip irrigation and many more.

Community work by CGPL

Coastal Gujarat Power Limited has been engaging its neighboring communities to address their developmental needs and issues. A systematic strategy has been followed for the identification and grouping of stakeholders based on their influence, leading to a phased stakeholder dialogue. It includes exploring and engaging, building and formalizing, implementing actions and then continuously evaluating in a manner that institutionalizes relationship with communities.  The programs and their outcomes are aligned to achieve high level of impact and level of sustenance. The above strategy has taken the Company to a journey that spans the themes of education, health, income generation and livelihood, natural resource management, infrastructure and institution building.
