OREANDA-NEWS. July 19, 2012. In July 2012 a delegation of the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) paid a visit to Aviadvigatel OJSC. The purpose of the visit was the demonstration of capabilities of the lead Russian higher education institution in future-oriented engines development. Two-day visit of the Moscow scientists gave Aviadvigatel's specialists an option of defining if it would be reasonable to deploy scientific research at MAI.

A team of experts of the Aircraft Engines Department led by Alexei Agulnik, the Department Chair, arrived to Perm as joint delegates of the Moscow Aviation Institute (National Research University). Faculty members of MAI and Aviadvigatel's engineers and designers held a joint workshop.

The workshop was arranged in four sessions held simultaneously and touched upon the matters, which are topical and vital for up-to-date engine technology of Russia, and in particular, experimental studies and field researches of DLE combustion systems, rotor dynamics and vibrations, materials and heat shield coatings, problems with cooling of high-loaded gas turbine blades. Moreover, the delegation of experts from MAI showed a keen interest in examining a test bench with a Demo engine installed thereon and new equipment and machine tools of production floors of Aviadvigatel's Engine Development Plant and Perm Engine Co.

Aviadvigatel's Laboratory of Structural Analysis and Study, Laser Vibration Analysis Laboratory, Acoustics Investigations Center and Composite Materials Research Center established by the Perm National Research Polytechnical University in cooperation with Aviadvigatel made the guests sit up and take notice.

Yuri Ravikovich, the MAI's Chairman of the Engines Design Department, emphasized that whenever he arrives to Aviadvigatel, he catches sight of great changes and progress. New laboratories, equipment, production areas, etc. have come about. Very pleasant fact is a well-established cooperation with the Perm Polytechnical University. The teamwork of the higher education institution and manufacturer is perfectly practiced by Perm Engine Companies.

Summarizing the preliminary results of the meeting, Alexander Inozemtsev, Aviadvigatel's General Designer, said that the proposal of MAI for further cooperation has provoked interest of the Perm designers. In September Aviadvigatel's specialists are going to arrive to the Moscow Aviation Institute on a return visit. "We should develop a branching network of research laboratories and centers to support MC-21 Engines Project and attract the best "brains" of Russia for its implementation, - said Inozemtsev, - Parallel with the cooperation with lead specialized sectoral research institutes it is essential to forge close links with research teams of higher education institutions. So and in no other way we can develop really innovative engine for aviation of XXI century".
