OREANDA-NEWS. July 25, 2012. BhubneshwarTata Power, India’s largest integrated power utility, initiated a training programme on fire safety at Kalinganagar, Orissa. With gradual urbanisation, the traditional village chulhas are getting replaced by modern gas ovens, kerosene stoves and induction electric cookers. Keeping this in mind, Tata Power organised an awareness and training programme on fire safety for the village ladies conducted by its safety team.

The programme was well received by the villagers and 125 women participated in the training. A presentation was made on various fire hazards, which may occur while working with fire during domestic work. At the same time, explanation and remedies to avoid fire accidents and the safety procedures while operating fire equipments were demonstrated.

During the interactive training programme, participants asked questions on their working with fire during domestic work and the many issues they face in day-to-day life. The participants also requested the company officials to continue holding such awareness and developmental activities in future.

Speaking on the initiative, Purushottam Thakur, general manager, Orissa projects, said, “This initiative has been taken up by Tata Power to make the womenfolk aware of hazards of fire and prepare them to handle situations that may arise in their day-to-day life. We are happy that our employees have participated in this home safety sensitisation session for our communities.”
