OREANDA-NEWS.  July 30, 2012. Prudential Financial, Inc. (NYSE: PRU) is one of the Computerworld 2012 Best Places to Work in IT for challenging its IT staff while providing superior benefits and compensation. Prudential ranked 15th on the list of 100 top organizations – up from 17th place last year, reported the press-centre of Prudential.

“We are delighted to once again be recognized as a Computerworld Best Places to Work in IT company. We take great pride in our information technology professionals and the quality of the positions we offer them,” said Barbara Koster, senior vice president and chief information officer at Prudential. “We also continue to be pleased to know that our employees value the positive, supportive work and the technology environment we foster. We’re dedicated to developing IT talent at all organizational levels and to attracting and developing a new generation of talent. And I cannot describe how proud we are that we have continued to move up on the list.”

Koster added that Prudential achieves superior performance by developing the capabilities and talent of its existing employees and seeking fresh ideas from new hires. “We tap into the skills and talents of all our employees because we recognize that leadership does not come from a title or a role but from a commitment to do the right thing for our customers, our investors and each other,” said Koster.

In addition, Prudential offers a flexible work environment that supports work/life balance, which allows 78 percent of the company’s IT employees to telecommute or work part-time or compressed weeks on average each month, and even more have access to flexible hours. That number has increased each year since 2002.

“The organizations on this year's Best Places to Work in IT list consistently seek out and hire the most talented IT people, offer them competitive pay and provide great benefits," said Scot Finnie, editor in chief of Computerworld. "Many of these organizations have spent years building top-notch IT workplaces, and we applaud the amazing work they've done to sustain dynamic environments where IT professionals can work with the latest technologies and play a key role in business-critical projects."

Koster said Prudential also recruits and develops talent through community outreach work. “Our partnership with Workforce Opportunity Services – a non-profit organization – along with Rutgers University and Columbia University, has allowed us to create technology career opportunities within the company for talented urban high school students and military veterans.”

The Best Places to Work in Information Technology list is an annual ranking of the top 100 work environments for technology professionals by IDG’s Computerworld. The list is compiled based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, diversity, career development, training and retention. In addition, Computerworld conducts extensive surveys of IT workers, and their responses factor heavily in determining the rankings.
