OREANDA-NEWS. July 31, 2012. Russian Railways is continuing its project to carry out the comprehensive reconstruction of the line between Maxim Gorky - Kotelnikovo - Tikhoretskaya - Krymskaya with a bypass of the Krasnodar hub, reported the press-centre of RZD.

Since the beginning of this year, capital expenditure on the project has reached 1.8 billion roubles.

The construction work is going according to schedule. Before the end of the year, it is planned to commission a 10.9 km stretch of the second track on the Polivyansky - Razvilnaya section and the traction substation Remontnaya, as well as to carry out preliminary work on the stretches between Abganerovo - Gniloaksayskaya, Gniloaksayskaya - Zhutovo, Remontnaya - Gaush, Poroshinskaya - 4 km, Angelinskaya - Poltava and Poltava - Protoka.

Total investment in the project will amount to 6.4 billion roubles in 2012.

Implementing this project will provide inter-regional transport and economic ties between the industrial centres of the Urals & the Volga region and the Northern Caucasus and the ports of the Azov-Black Sea (Novorossiysk, Tuapse, Kavkaz, Temryuk and Grushevskaya). In addition, by switching freight traffic to the Timashevskaya - Krymskaya stretch and bypassing the Krasnodar transport hub, it will also optimise the hub’s performance.

The project provides for the construction of a second main track along the whole line of 642 km, the reconstruction of the existing track, lengthening the receiving-departure tracks at stations and the reconstruction of the contact network, as well as a new 65-km line to bypass the Krasnodar hub and the construction and reconstruction of traction substations and other railway infrastructure facilities.

Between the start of construction in 2007 and 2011, Russian Railways invested 23.2 billion roubles in the project and commissioned 164.62 km of second tracks.
