Baosteel successfully produced the ultra high strength steel for engineering machinery-BS960, which is the first time for Baosteel to produce 960MPa ultra high strength steel for engineering machinery, and also the first time for national steel enterprise to produce this kind of steel successfully, reported the press-centre of Baosteel.

The new breakthrough of ultra high strength steel for engineering machinery in manufacture field successfully broke the situation of relying on imported steel for a long time, and put through a material bottleneck for the downstream engineering machinery industry.

At present, domestic and overseas engineering machinery industry generally uses yield strength 960 MPa high strength steel for engineering machinery manufacturing of large tonnage crane equipment of the key force bearing component to promote the structural stability and lifting performance. As this kind of steel decides directly the security of large-tonnage equipment, it has a strict demand for the performance of steel plate. The production of ultra high strength steel for engineering machinery is difficult, performance with high strength, difficult to control the strip shape, therefore, China had not got stable steel enterprise of the mass production ability yet, and ultra high strength steel for engineering machinery field was monopolized by a few foreign steel enterprise, therefore, this kind of steel also become one of the steel bottleneck in the main domestic engineering machinery industry development.

At the beginning of this year, Baosteel and Xuzhou Construction machinery Group negotiated an ultra high strength steel for engineering machinery cooperation plan to push the ultra high strength steel for engineering machinery localization.

Therefore, hot rolled high strength steel for engineering machinery production and marketing research team, constitute by Baosteel hot rolling mill, Baosteel Research Institute, in close cooperation with Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group based on engineering machinery with super-high strength steel strip shape and performance of the existence of uniformity problems as the key research.

Team members began to work from the roll shape optimizing control, controlled cooling temperature uniformity, finishing process optimization and other aspects, after numerous trials, the performance of the product uniformity got the fundamental improvement, and strip shape quality also had greater progress, and comprehensive product yield rising steady to satisfy the demands of customers, and for the first time this month to organize production according to the contract. To ensure the contract to satisfy the customer's demands, Baosteel hot rolling mill organized many preparing meetings before the production from plate processing to the coiling each area undertake deploy. They also made strict process organization plans to strictly implement the process regulations during producing, and do the data analyze and summaries on time after producing to ensure the stable promotion of the product quality.

It is understood that based on the increasing localized demands on ultra high steel for national engineering industry, Baosteel will further strength the cooperation with Xuzhou Construction machinery Group to devoted to the product research, manufacture and application of ultra high steel for engineering machinery so that national engineering industry will use more and more domestic high steel.
