OREANDA-NEWS. August 03, 2012. The world’s leading civilian nuclear power plant vendors held a second meeting to review implementation of the Nuclear Power Plant Exporters’ Principles of Conduct in Pittsburg, USA, reported the press-centre of Rusatom.

The Nuclear Power Plant Exporters' Principles of Conduct (POC) are a voluntary industry code of conduct, which has been adopted by the world’s leading nuclear power plant vendors and were publicly launched in September 2011. The unprecedented Principles of Conduct reflect the participating companies’ commitment to their customers and all those who stand to benefit from nuclear power to assemble and share best practices that reinforce and enhance existing codes, standards and regulations.

At the past meeting companies updated the Principles of Conduct text to reflect the importance of severe accident management and emergency response requirements. Reflecting their commitment to implementation of the Principles of Conduct, companies expanded the practice of presenting their internal programs, discussed their outreach efforts, shared best practices, and considered other ways to enhance their effectiveness. Participants also discussed the possibilities of engaging new players of the industry.

Vice-president of JSC Rusatom Overseas Jukka Laaksonen made a report at the meeting. He said, that the State Corporation ROSATOM has a clear strategy and firm plans that are in line with the POC. In terms of this strategy ROSATOM has established JSC Rusatom Overseas, which is to develop Russian nuclear business abroad. J. Laaksonen in his report spoke about ROSATOM’s implemented, current and perspective projects in nuclear power plants construction outside Russia, as well as about ROSATOM’s approach to the export of nuclear energy technologies. First of all, this approach implies the provision of safe and referential technologies, particularly to customers in countries with no earlier experience in nuclear energy. “ROSATOM is committed to the following approach: to be a responsible vendor. That is why the company offers integrated solutions in NPP construction, which involve not only provision of modern and safe technologies, but also technology transfer and full support in creating the required infrastructure, as well as support in providing public acceptance of nuclear power projects in the client’s country”, he noted.
