OREANDA-NEWS. August 6, 2012. As part of the Simon Bolivar Project, it was inaugurated, the “1 Butene” plant at the Petrochemical Complex Ana Maria Campos, Miranda municipality, in Zulia State.

President Hugo Chavez, in company of People’s Minister of Petroleum and Mining, Rafael Ramirez, and Vice President of Refining, Marketing and Supply, Asdrubal Chavez, recalled the pitiable situation in which the complex was under the past administration and pointed out the importance of the petrochemical complex development for the economical growth.

“This plant allows us to produce all the current butene required to the domestic demand in the fabrication process of the plastic chains, to the production of polyethylene, polypropylene and the final products, which will pave the way for replacing imports and boosting our projects”, affirmed the Chief of State.

It is important to recall that this new facility will save 30 million dollars in 1 Butene importations and additionally 57 millions in linear polyethylene, for a total saving to the domestic market of 87 million dollars in imports of this petroleum-derived.

Likewise, the advances of the big project of olefins and polyethylene were showed during the act, denominated Polyolefin Production Complex, which will increase the polyethylene production from the actual 300 thousand tons to 900 thousand tons by 2016.

In this regard, the Minister Rafael Ramirez pointed out that “thanks to this olefin project we will be able to use not only gas but also naphtha, produced in our refineries, for the development of our petroquemical industry”.
