OREANDA-NEWS. August 17, 2012. Sergey Sobyanin, Mayor of Moscow, inspected status construction of Zhulebino subway station, one of three stations of a new of Taganskaya - Krasnopresnenskaya Line section of the Russian capital subway system. This subway section is being built by businesses of SK MOST Group of Companies.

They started construction of the subway section that will connect Vykhino station to Kotelniki, a Moscow suburb, in October last year. The subway builders started the first tunneling phase from Zhulebino station excavation pit, moving toward Lermontovsky Prospekt station and also in the opposite direction, toward Vykhino station, which is in service.

"We are planning to wrap up all tunneling operations in these spans in May-June next year," Viktor Gridasov, General Director, CJSC Bamtonnelstroy, reported to Sergey Sobyanin. "The work is running full swing at the stations, and 50% of reinforced concrete structures are already in place at Lermontovsky Prospekt and Zhulebino. We are going to complete the entire structural work before December."

Because new waterproofing materials were used, the builders managed to save time (at least 2 months at each station) and money as well. A total of 20% savings resulted from the high tech concepts, new technologies, materials and equipment that are used in subway construction practice today.

Sergey Sobyanin believes that this approach should be applied on an ongoing basis.

"Review all world experiences in subway construction and use the best practices," he recommended to the builders. "This will expedite construction while cutting down the cost. This is especially true of tunneling when building deep seated stations. We need to analyze new technologies because those that are in use now have become obsolete and cannot be used anymore."

The total length of  Taganskaya - Krasnopresnenskaya Line  section Vykhino - Kotelniki that is under construction will be 6.6 km. All new subway stations in this section will not be deep stations. Zhulebino and Lermontovsky Prospekt stations will be opened for passenger traffic quite shortly, in autumn 2013.
