OREANDA-NEWS. August 23, 2012. In the first 7 months of 2012, 74.7 million tons of crude oil and petroleum products for the Russian domestic market were carried by rail, 2.8% more than during the same period in 2011, reported the press-centre of RZD.

The total volume of crude oil and petroleum products loaded during the period was 150.3 million tons, an increase of 2.5%.

Russian Railways emphasises that the available number of tank wagons is fully sufficient to meet shippers’ demand for transporting oil cargo. Moreover, on a number of routes, there is actually a surplus of the tank wagons on the market which are needed to ship oil.

The entire fleet of over 275,000 tank wagons used to transport oil and oil products is privately owned.
