OREANDA-NEWS. August 24, 2012. International finance magazine Global Finance assessed the world's largest banks based on their credit rating and capitalisation and ranked Nordea the safest among Nordic banks, reported the press-centre of Nordea.

Based on the ratings and assets of the 500 largest banks analysed by Global Finance, Nordea was placed 24th in the global ranking of the safest banks.

German KfW ranked the safest bank in the world. Bank Nederlandse Gemeenten (BNG) and Zurcher Kantonalbank also reached the top-3. Of Nordic banks, Svenska Handelsbanken ranked 27th, Pohjola Bank 33rd and SEB 50th.

Every year, Global Finance compiles the top-50 of the world's safest banks. The analysis is based on credit ratings issued by Moody’s, Standard & Poor’s and Fitch, in conjunction with asset volumes of the banks.

The high ranking among the world's largest banks is one of the several international recognitions for Nordea this year. For the second consecutive year, Nordea was named the best banking group in Scandinavia by the finance magazine World Finance. This May, finance magazine EMEA Finance ranked Nordea the best bank in Estonia and named Nordea the best investment bank.
