OREANDA-NEWS. August 28, 2012. Belarus saw the consumer price index grow 1% over the first 7 days of August 2012 and 13.1% since early this year, the National Statistics Committee told reporters.

The largest increase in retail prices was registered with bread and bakery goods (3%), vodka (2.6%),

dry baby food and diet food (1.2%), beer (0.9%), smoked sausage, canned meat, spice cakes, pasta, salt (0.7%), prefabricated poultry, melted cheese, wheat flour (0.5%), furniture (0.8%), technical maintenance of dwellings (26.6%), electricity supply (23.7%), cell phone communication services (18.4%), long-distance railway communication (11%), household services (2.1%).

With the arrival of new vegetables and fruits, the retail price of fresh tomatoes reduced by 18.4%, potatoes - down 12.9%, carrots - down 10.5%, fresh cucumbers – down 10.3%, beet roots - down 7.1%, onions – down 3.8%, white cabbage – down 3.3%, bananas – down 8.4%, apples – down 5.2%.

As previously reported, Belarus saw the consumer price index grow 108.7% in 2011, although the initial forecast for 2011 stood at 7.5%-8.5%. Belarus’ inflation forecast for 2012 stands at 19-22%.
