OREANDA-NEWS. August 28, 2012.  A delegation of regional veterans of the construction industry visited Baltic nuclear power plant, which is built in Neman District of Kaliningrad Region. All of them have the title of “The Honored Construction Worker of the Russian Federation” and many state-level awards. They took part in building most complex facilities not only in the Amber Country but also in the territory of the USSR or led large construction organizations.

During the visit they were shown to the concrete-mixing plant, reinforcement section, and toured to the plot where concreting of the first reactor building foundation was ongoing. Then, the guests had a meeting with Alexander Gulyaev, Deputy Director General and Head of Civil Construction at Rosenergoatom’s Branch – Directorate of Baltic NPP under Construction, and Anatoly Burianov, Deputy Director General of JSC Baltic NPP, who answered all questions of interest.

“Frankly speaking, we felt very critical, Alexander Matveev, head of the regional non-governmental organization of honored construction workers of Russia, who had led the construction committee of Kaliningrad city administration, said. “Now, we have seen ourselves that there is strict and thorough control at each stage of construction, even over every batch of concrete with a sample kept in the special laboratory. So the entire process at the essential section – nuclear island – is well-organized, and we don’t give it a moment’s thought, the quality of the construction is reliable.”

The veterans noted good housekeeping on the nuclear power plant site, which is clean and in order in spite of the fact that there are more than 120 machinery items in operation and has been raining throughout the summer. According to veterans, the construction workers deserved the challenge cup “The Best Construction Site of the Region” and they will take this into account when deciding on candidates for this title.

According to the veterans, the video on the future NPP they had been shown convinced them that all reactor protection systems were reliable and ensured its safe operation.
