OREANDA-NEWS. August 31, 2012. Belarus plans to gradually increase milk production by promoting commercial diary farms, in order to produce 10 million tonnes of milk in 2015, which would be a 53% increase from the 2011 level.

President Lukashenko’s press-service made a statement to that extent following the president’s conference on agricultural development.

Belarus plans to reconstruct around 1,200 commercial dairy farms and increase milk cow population by 78,300.

Investments in dairy farm renovation will enable farmers to reduce production costs, which will giver Belarusian farm products a competitive advantage on foreign markets.

Belarus produced 3.7 million tonnes of milk in January-July 2012, up 7% on the year. In 2011 Belarus produced 6.544 million tonnes of milk, down 1.2% on the year.
