OREANDA-NEWS. September 4, 2012. MegaFon, as a partner of the APEC Russia 2012, has accomplished the preparations for the event. The operator improved the mobile coverage on Russky Island and ensured roaming services within its network for subscribers of other mobile operators, organized the confidential mobile network and dedicated channels for the Joint Headquarters of Power Structures, arranged for live video broadcasting from the venues of the summit for the camera crews of VGTRK.

The grand opening of the summit of the Asia-Pacific Cooperation (APEC) Forum will be on Sunday. That will be the 24th meeting of the leaders of the nations including over 57 percent of the world GDP and 48 percent of the world trade, that will take place on Russky Island.

MegaFon has carried out a lot of work to extend its network capacities and provide the summit participants with a full range of the leading edge telecommunication services. The operator ensured high quality of the network on Russky Island at Ajax Bay, where the campus of the Far East Federal University is situated. It is where the major events of the summit will take place. MegaFon, in order to ensure high communication channels transmission capacity, installed its own fiber optic communication line to Russky Island. The major part of the line goes via the bridge connecting Russky and the mainland. Also, the operator provides in test mode 4G communication services within the campus of FEFU.

The Ministry of Communications Russian Federation has ordered for the purpose of stable communications that MegaFon, MTS, Vimpelcom and Akos would arrange for cross roaming on Russky Island within August 30 till September 10. Subscribers of MegaFon will be able to register in the networks of the three mentioned operators and subscribers of those companies will be able to register in MegaFon’s network. Roaming calls and texts will be charged in accordance with each customer’s home rate plan.

Under these arrangements, Federal State Unitary Enterprise All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting (VGTRK) together with MegaFon and Synterra ensured live video broadcasting from the venues of the summit for the camera units of VGTRK. Live broadcasting will stream from two spots: the new air-terminal complex Vladivostok International Airport and campus #24 of FEFU on Russky Island. The operator has also organized for VGTRK dedicated channels of communication with Moscow with the capacity to transmit HD video content.

MegaFon, upon the Russian Federation Government’s instruction, deployed the Network of Special Federal Subsystem of Confidential Mobile Communications (NSFSCMC) on Russky Island within the section: Knevichy Airport – Artem – Vladivostok. The company, in order to ensure high performance of NSFSCMC, additionally provided around 40 communication facilities throughout the area from Artem to Vladivostok. The operator organized dedicated channels to meet demands of the Joint Headquarters of Power Structures in charge of the security of the summit.

MegaFon also supplied mobile communication and telecommunication equipment for the Volunteer Corps of the APEC Summit 2012. 800 volunteers received the handsets and SIM cards of the operator. The operator organized in the volunteer headquarters in Vladivostok and on Russky Island uninterrupted Internet access via 3G modems and Wi-Fi zone in the volunteer headquarters of Vladivostok. MegaFon arranged a call center for the VC staff to solve any issue related to organizing procedures by dialing +7 (423) 2012 009.
