DTEK Trading entered into a contract for coal supplies to Brazilian iron and steel plants belonging to the largest regional steel company, Gerdau. DTEK will deliver 50,000 tons of anthracite to South American ports by the end of this year. The Company is currently negotiating terms for cooperation with Brazilian partners in 2013. DTEK plans to increase its volume of supplies and conclude new contracts with customers in Africa.

“DTEK became the first Ukrainian company to enter the coal markets in Africa and South America, where there is considerable demand for high quality anthracite coal,” said Andrey Favorov, Commercial Director of DTEK. “The export potential to the African market is at least 300,000 tons of anthracite. We see interest from local consumers in cooperation with our company and we are actively negotiating with major stakeholders. By gaining a footing in the African and South American markets, DTEK will become a global energy trader and put the Company among the world’s leading producers and suppliers of high quality anthracite coal.

“DTEK’s long-term strategy includes further expansion in key world markets of energy resources; and the contracts with our Brazilian and Ethiopian partners prove that we are on the right track.”
