OREANDA-NEWS. September 05, 2012. The draft Strategy has been developed by the Ministry of Economy in cooperation with international experts in the framework of the program backed by the government of Sweden. The strategy is based on an idea of integration of Moldova’s energy system into that of EU. It identifies a current situation and sets objectives in the energy sector of Moldova and defines actions and measures to achieve them.

The government suggests setting as a priority goal the strengthening of bidirectional transport in order to maintain a status of Moldova as a state transiting power and natural gas. Another priority is consolidation and complete commercial use of domestic power-generating opportunities of Moldova.

The strategy also includes such objectives as ensuring energy safety, creating competitive markets and integrating them into energy systems of the region and Europe, providing environmental sustainability and combating against the climate change. Besides, the Strategy suggests possible solutions for pressing problems of the energy sector of Moldova.

According to the Ministry of Economy, implementing the Strategy is to contribute to the long-term development of the national economy, create more the more efficient energy system and transparent and competitive energy market.
