OREANDA-NEWS. September 10, 2012. This was voiced by leader of the initiative group standing for the higher fare Ion Frincu om at a press conference.

He stated that this initiative had been put forward from below and not by the City Hall. According to Ion Frincu, the principal requirements route taxi drivers are ready to meet include filling taxies according to the “red line”, stopping at stops and the most often asked-for places, such as supermarkets, schools, etc). Route taxi owners are ready to put more taxies in streets in rush hours, hang route maps and timetables in the taxis and meet them.

They even offer to tighten terms of contracts concluded with drivers and sanction and fire them depending on gravity and frequency of breaches. “It is possible to create a single center in order to be sure that the drivers discharged will never by hired by other operators", Ion Frincu says. The members of the initiative group also suggested to develop a site of complaints, to install GPS to trace taxis.

According to Ion Frincu, raising the fare will reduce a number of people riding in route taxies; this will put an end to overcrowded taxies. He stressed that the raise of the fare is determined not by higher fuel prices but by other, technical, costs. Iurie Topala, Municipal Councilor, promised that all proposals wiould be thoroughly considered in the Public Conveyances Department. “ We will see what of them are possible to be put into practice. We think grounded the demand to raise the fare’” he concluded. Now in Chisinau 1600 route taxies are circulating, carrying about 500 thou passengers every day.
