OREANDA-NEWS. September 17, 2012. Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company, has constantly endeavoured to improve the quality of lives of the communities around its project areas. In continuation with this philosophy, the company's Kalinganagar project team has consistently undertaken initiatives for the well-being of its communities.

As a part of this endeavour, a healthcare drive was organised on increasing awareness about different tropical diseases prevalent in the locality. The project team started this initiative by organising an awareness generation camp on mosquito-borne infectious diseases like malaria and dengue for the womenfolk at Rajiv Gandhi Vikash Kendra in Manatira village in Kalinganagar. Around 105 women from five of the the nearby villages participated in the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, P Thakur, head, Odisha projects, said, "Monsoons brings with it lot of diseases and if due care is not taken it can lead to rapid spread of these diseases. It is our endeavour to create awareness about these health hazards in the local community and help them in preventing it. We are happy to note that the programme has been well appreciated by the local people and opinion makers.”

With the advent of monsoons, there is a risk of mosquito and water-borne diseases. At the camp, the womenfolk were also given information on the symptoms, prevention and treatment of such water-borne diseases. The initiative has been very well received by the community members.
