OREANDA-NEWS. September 21, 2012. An international round table was held in the Skolkovo Innovation Center. Participants of the round table discussed recent scientific achievements, including new vaccines development; support of education centers and scientific researches; and new scientific solutions of global healthcare problems. Special attention was paid to the techniques of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment.

The event attracted leading Russian scientists, managers of pharmaceutical companies and representatives of state healthcare institutions. Among the others the round table was attended by Georgy Glukhov, Minister of Moscow Government and Head of Healthcare Department; Alexey Mazus, MD, Head of Moscow AIDS Prevention and Treatment Center, Chief expert on HIV prevention and treatment of The Healthcare Ministries of Russia and Moscow; and David Wilkinson, Executive officer of Institute of Human Virology.

Participants of the round table agreed that the most important steps of stopping HIV and AIDS include the following: integration of virologists’ resources for development of new medicines; significant reduction of pharmaceutical costs through the transfer of manufacturing technologies to Russia; and implementation of special campaign to reduce the risk of vertical virus transmission from HIV-infected mothers to their children during pregnancy and delivery.

Mikhail Samsonov, Medical Department Director, R-Pharm, presented his report “Russia and the global R&D market” to the participants of the event. Mikhail paid attentions to problems and new opportunities of clinical researches in Russia. Also he presented a comparative review of various countries’ participation in pharmaceutical R&D.

At the end of the event a representative of Institute of Human Virology announced large Annual International Congress sponsored by the Medical School of Maryland University and dedicated to prevention of the Century’s most dangerous diseases.
