OREANDA-NEWS. September 25, 2012. Tata group companies, Tata Sons, Tata Chemicals North America, Tata Global Beverages and Tata Communications, announced their partnership with the Women’s National Basketball Association’s New York Liberty to benefit the team’s Libs4Kids charitable program. The partnership will provide 400 children from schools in low-income areas throughout New York and New Jersey with tickets to upcoming New York Liberty's game at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Additionally, through their national partnership with First Book, Tata companies, including Tata Consultancy Services, Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces, Tata Global Beverages and Tata Interactive Systems, will also donate new books to every student at each participating Libs4Kids school. The program supports Tata’s objective of promoting education, including training on the topics of health and wellness.

"At Tata we believe education and physical exercise provide the vital foundations from which children grow as individuals and members of their community," said Niharika Chibber Joe, general manager, North America, Tata Sons. "We are thrilled to continue our work with local schools and provide so many with the opportunity to attend an exciting and spirited event and access to much-needed books."

"The employees of Tata Chemicals North America are very pleased to be partnering with New York Liberty in support of children’s health and wellness education in our local communities," said Chris Douville, VP, GM, Tata Chemicals North America. "The development of healthy lifestyle habits as children, reinforced by strong role models, leads to better choices as adults."

Students at the participating schools will receive free tickets to the September 7 New York Liberty's game against Chicago Sky, and the September 22 game against Detroit Shock. Before the games, the students will interact with players, including New York Liberty legend Kym Hampton, who will lead the children in a mini exercise routine. Joining the children at the games will be 100 volunteers from several Tata companies as well as the children’s guardians. Libs4Kids will host 50,000 children from low-income communities at their games during 2012.

Throughout September, Tata companies will work with First Book to provide each school with brand new books for every child. This is in keeping with Tata’s long standing commitment to education. Since 2007, Tata has partnered with First Book – an award-winning social enterprise – to gift more than 160,000 books valued at well over USD 1 million to children in need across the US.
