OREANDA-NEWS. September 26, 2012. Mitsubishi Motors Corporation today announced global production, as well as domestic sales and export figures for August 2012.

Production: total and in Japan
 Total global production for August came in at 87,250 units, 13.5 percent up over August 2011 and the first consecutive monthly year-on-year increase since July this year. Production volume in Japan at 38,567 units was 4.6 percent down, the third consecutive monthly year-on-year decrease since May this year. Passenger car output at 33,368 units was 9.5 percent down. Commercial vehicle output at 5,199 units was 46.1 percent up.

Sales in Japan
 Vehicle sales in Japan in August totaled 8,361 units, 13.4 percent down on the same month last year and the fourth consecutive monthly year-on-year decline since April this year. Sales of passenger cars at 6,210 units were 15.8 percent down while sales of commercial vehicles at 2,151 units were 5.6 percent down over the same month last year. Registered vehicle sales volume at 3,896 units was 4.8 percent down while minicar sales volume at 4,465 units was 19.7 percent down on the same month last year.

Production overseas
 Overseas production volume totaled 48,683, 33.5 percent up over August last year and the sixth consecutive monthly year-on-year increase since February this year. By region, output in Asia at 40,160 units was 49.1 percent up year on year boosted chiefly by a 94.2 percent increase at 30,413 units at MMTh in Thailand, this being attributed to the addition of the new Mirage to the production line. In China, output at 1,963 units was 36.7 percent down on August last year. In North America, output at 3,331 units was 21.0 percent down over the same month last year, due in part to preparations for the production startup of the new Outlander Sport model. In Europe, output at 1,742units was 4.7 percent down on last year. In South America output at 3,450 units was 7.5 percent up over August last year.

Export shipments from Japan
 Total exports from Japan of 30,194 units were 2.3 percent down on August 2011, marking the third consecutive monthly year-on-year fall since May this year. Exports to Asia at 1.574 units were 62.4 percent down year on year. Exports to North America at 4,083 units were 0.8 percent up over August last year. Exports to Europe at 15,865 units were 11.3 percent up year on year.
