OREANDA-NEWS. September 28, 2012. Will Morris has been appointed to the new role of Managing Director, Retail, for SSE, where he will have Management Board level responsibility for energy supply and energy-related services. In addition, Martin Pibworth, currently SSE’s Director of Energy Trading, will become Managing Director, Energy Portfolio Management, in succession to David Franklin, who has decided to retire from SSE by the end of the current financial year.

Will and Martin will report to Alistair Phillips-Davies, who becomes Deputy Chief Executive, retaining Management Board level responsibility for SSE’s Retail and Wholesale businesses, and as members of the Management Board they will be persons discharging managerial responsibility under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000.

Will has wide experience in retailing, most recently in the InterContinental Hotels Group, where he had responsibility for developing and growing a large scale customer business with multiple brands. Martin has built up extensive experience in all aspects of energy portfolio management since he joined this division in SSE in 1998.

Ian Marchant, Chief Executive of SSE, said:

“Will brings skills and perspective that will complement those we already have in SSE, giving us real strength in depth across the whole of the senior management team in Retail, and I am looking forward to working with him. Martin has built up a breadth and depth of knowledge in energy portfolio management that will stand him in very good stead when he succeeds David, who has been a vital contributor over many years to the success of SSE.

“The change in Energy Portfolio Management will be straightforward, and the creation of the new Retail role will enable Alistair to take a broader view of the SSE group as Deputy Chief Executive with Finance Director Gregor Alexander and me. This will contribute to a further strengthening of the management team as we work together on delivering SSE’s goals in this financial year and on maintaining its track record of success in the years ahead.”
