OREANDA-NEWS. October 4, 2012. Olympus Corporation (Representative Director and President: Hiroyuki Sasa) announced the launch today of the DP80, the flagship model in its DP Series of microscope digital cameras. The new camera can work to record biological microscopic images with cells or tissues, and switch easily between capture of brightfield color images, which demand a high level of color reproduction, and monochrome fluorescence images requiring high sensitivity. The DP80 will be available from November 1, 2012, initially in Japan and subsequently in the rest of the world.

Main Features

1. A single camera can perform in both brightfield and fluorescence observations
With incorporating separate color and monochrome CCDs, the new camera can deliver both the high color reproduction in color image capturing and the high sensitivity in monochromatic imaging. The camera can switch easily between capturing brightfield color images that demand a high level of color reproduction and monochrome fluorescence images requiring high sensitivity.

2. Color images with high levels of color reproduction and resolution
The Olympus's own color reproduction algorithm makes it possible to capture subtle differences in color, in addition to supporting Adobe RGB that is capable to reproduce a wide range of colors. The color CCD also implements the pixel shift technique to achieve a high maximum resolution equivalent to a recorded image size of 12.5 M pixels.

3. High sensitivity monochrome image capture also supports the near infrared
Together with a high-performance amplifier, the high sensitivity monochrome CCD can record clear monochrome images, even of the weak fluorescence light from cells that is usually difficult to reproduce using the color image capture. As the monochrome CCD can perform over a wide range of wavelengths, including high sensitivity in the near infrared region, it is suitable for capturing deep cell images using near infrared wavelengths.

4. Images can be captured using cellSens imaging software
The camera can be operated with Olympus's cellSens imaging software, which provides seamless workflow with a full range of operations, from image capture, measurement, analysis through report creation. The software is an efficient way to manage microscope imaging, with features that include automatic selection of the appropriate CCD and the overlay of color and monochrome images to synthesize a single image.
