OREANDA-NEWS. October 18, 2012. As a part of its Greenolution initiative, Tata Power's Jojobera plant, along with Lafarge, has initiated a month long cleanliness campaign in the locality of Govindpur, Gadra and Rahargora areas of Jamshedpur. The initiative has been taken with the support of elected panchayat leaders and other community influencers.

This cleanliness cum sensitisation drive aims at inculcating a sense of responsibility among local residents in maintaining sanitation. Panchayat representatives are also playing an important role in disseminating this message.

This initiative was commenced after a survey of the area and taking inputs from local residents in a participatory manner. Tata Power and Lafarge officials sat together with locals to plan this activity. Both Tata Power and Lafarge are located adjacent to each other, and hence have taken this initiative jointly. During the exercise, approximately 12,000 CFT garbage will be removed from area of around 1,800 acres.

During this drive, messages related to no plastic use are also being spread among residents and school children, as local drains are choked with plastic other non-biodegradable materials.

Speaking on the initiative, Dinesh Kudalkar, head, Jojobera thermal power plant, said, “Going forward through the brand name Greenolution, Tata Power intends to put efforts / practices / programmes that infuse the belief of sustainability as a movement by making all stakeholders a part of it.”

The name Greenolution is a fusion of two concepts – green and evolution, which signifies the processes and initiatives that Tata Power has undertaken or will undertake towards ensuring a greener and sustainable planet. The programme has several employees enrolled as Green Heroes for championing this initiative in Tata Power. The key programmes being pursued under Greenolution are:

Implementation of 100 percent recycled paper usage in office

Tree plantation at all plants and site locations

Saving water at plants, offices and site locations
