OREANDA-NEWS. October 23, 2012. JSC Russian Railways confirmed Technical Design Assignment for double-deck passenger coaches with seats on October 10, 2012. The project is implemented by Tver Carriage Works (TVZ, a part of CJSC Transmashholding).

Project works are being performed in accordance with Partnership Agreement related to production of double-deck passenger coaches for interregional transit that was signed by JSC Federal Passenger Company (FPC) and Transmashholding on May 31, 2012 within Business Forum “Strategic Partnership 1520”, Sochi.

Rolling stock supply contract should be concluded by the end of 2012, and start of coaches serial manufacturing is scheduled in 2014 in compliance with terms and conditions of the Agreement.

Coaches with seats will be used in interregional constant formation trains. Trainset will consist of double-deck staff compartment cars with special equipped seats for disabled passengers and double-deck restaurant cars.

Technical Design Assignment specifies requirements to two modifications – economy and business classes. Detailed expertise of the Technical Design Assignment is made not only by Federal Passenger Company being main customer of rolling stock products, but specialized scientific companies – All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Railway Hygiene of Federal Service for Consumer Right Protection and Human Welfare and Tver Coach Building Institute. The document is approved by Main State Sanitary Doctor of Railway Transport and Main Fire Safety Inspector of Railway Transport, as well as JSC RZD Center of Technical Audit.

Coaches will be designated for speed up to 160 km/h, carbodies with smooth sheeting of side walls will be made of stainless steel, as per Technical Design Assignment. As a result, life time of coaches will comprise 40 years.

104 passenger seats are designed in coaches of economy class, they will be arranged on both decks with 2+2 configuration. Storeroom for large-size luggage is designed near staff compartment car, and luggage racks - in passenger saloons. Each passenger seat will be equipped in a lamp and a table, shelves for hand luggage will be placed above seats.

29 luxurious seats are designed in business class coaches on both decks with 2+1 configuration. Liquid crystal displays will be built in back of seats to watch video programs. Seats to be used in the design can be turned in the direction of travel, passengers travelling together may turn seats facing each other. Cloakroom and tea table with water dispenser, tea and coffee accessories are planned in each saloon. Meal serving to business class passengers will be organized with service trolleys placed inside tea table.

In addition, a separate VIP two-bed compartment is designed in a business class coach, it will be provided with higher level of equipment and comfort than saloons.

All coaches will be equipped with air conditioning systems, eco-friendly toilets, Wi-Fi for Internet access, display panel and energy-saving lamps. Power supply of coaches is centralized from electric locomotive via high-voltage static converter. Air-tight gangways and slack-free couplings allow to diminish noise and vibration level while train running. Entrance sliding-plug doors are provided with automatic steps to ensure exit of passengers both from high-floor and low-floor platforms.

The designed rolling stock will complement line of double-deck coaches produced at TVZ. The plant will build up the first batch of double-deck long-distance trains for JSC FPC in 2013, the trains will include four-bed compartment, staff compartment, two-bed compartment cars, as well as restaurant cars.
