OREANDA-NEWS. October 23, 2012. The House of Sparkling Wines “Novy Svit” conducted the fourth Annual Specialized Prince Lew Golitsin Competition of Sparkling Wines.

The main feature of this competition is its high qualified jury team that consists of the leading winemakers from all over the world. This year, 93 sparkling wines of 40 manufacturers from 12 countries were presented at the competition. The evaluation of all sparkling wines took about two days. The evaluation process was ‘blind’ thus making it impossible to fake the results. At the press conference that took place at the sparkling wines factory on the 29th of September, the Chairman of jury committee, winemaker and oenologist John Salvi (England) and the managing director of the House of Sparkling Wines Yanina Pavlenko announced the names of the winners.

At the competition there were altogether 93 sparkling wines from Ukraine, Russia, Georgia, England, Spain, Italy, Bulgaria, France, South Africa, Argentina, and Peru. According to the rules of the competition the wines are assessed by 5 parameters: color, flavor, taste, aftertaste and quality of bubbles. After that the points gained for each parameter were summed up and divided into 5. A sparkling wine that gets 90 points after all samplings gets the grand prize of the competition, for 86 - 89,9 points – the gold award, for 84 - 87,9 points – the silver award, for 80 - 83,9 points – the bronze award. None of the sparkling wines received the grand prize this year. The gold award went to the semisweet Cuvee No.1.

“The Prince Lew Golitsin Competition of Sparkling Wines is very important for us because it can fairly assess the quality of our sparkling wines, We are happy that Cuvee No.1 semisweet has received this award that it really deserves. It’s no secret that the semisweet sparkling wines are the most popular among the Ukrainian consumers, that’s why we can announce with all certainty that our product is the best product in the sparkling wines segment”, says Polina Korchewa, Head of the Marketing Department of the Kyiv Factory of Sparkling Wines.
