OREANDA-NEWS. October 24, 2012. Metinvest decommissions two coking batteries (#6 and 7) at Azovstal Iron and Steel Works. This became possible thanks to successful completion of the next phase of the start-up operations at the new pulverized coal injection facility (PCI) at Metinvest’s Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol (MMKI).

Introduction of PCI technology at MMKI enables reducing coke consumption significantly. This will allow optimizing Metinvest’s coking capacities and decommissioning coking batteries # 6 and #7 at Azovstal ahead of time.

The operating personnel of the decommissioned equipment will be distributed to fill existing vacant positions at the plant. Early decommissioning of three coking batteries (coking battery #5 was decommissioned in June this year) will be a significant contribution to improving Mariupol’s environmental situation.

Decommissioning of coking batteries #6 and #7 is planned till the end of this month. Preparations are in progress at the enterprise.

Thus, Metinvest, as a socially responsible company, consistently delivers its obligations to reduce man-made burden on the environment of the city, and more, Metinvest decommissions part of the production equipment earlier than planned.
