OREANDA-NEWS. October 25, 2012. The aggregated throughput of sea – born cargo in Klaipeda Port and Butinges terminal in January – September of 2012 totalled 31,9 million tons, the overall year – on - year change was -6,5 percent down. 25,9 million tons were handled in Klaipeda Seaport throughout the analysed period, the year-on-year change was -5,5 pct. or -1,5 million tn, meanwhile Butinges terminal handled 6,0 million tn, the year-on-year change was -10,6 pct. or -0,7 million tn., reported the press-centre of Klaipeda Port.

Within the period of January – September of 2012 the cargo turnover comparing with the corresponding period of 2011 the handling volumes of raw and processed minerals and construction materials (+352,3 thou. tn yoy), iron ore (+260,3 thou. tn yoy) and agriculture products (+253,3 thou. tn yoy) marked an increase.

The most significant drop down in cargo turnover throughout January – September of 2012 comparing with the corresponding period of 2011 occurred due to decreased handling volumes of bulk natural and chemical fertilizers (-1 295,3 thou. tn yoy), oil products (-716,9 thou. tn yoy) and crude oil (-712,4 thou. tn yoy).

In terms of cargo groups the handling volumes of liquid cargo decreased by 9,7 pct. yoy to 13 533,0 thou. tn (42,4 pct. of overall Port handling turnover). ). Dry and bulk cargo handling volumes decreased by 5,6 pct. yoy, the handling rates of this cargo category were 10 207,7 thou. tn (32,0 pct. of overall Port handling turnover).

General cargo handling volumes decreased by 1,8 pct. yoy, the overall turnover in this cargo group was 8 185,0 thou. tn (25,6 pct. of overall Port handling turnover).

5 164 vessels were reported to call Klaipeda Port and Butinges terminal throughout the period of January – September of 2012. 60 vessels (-11,8 pct. or less by 8 vessels yoy) moored at Butinges terminal. 3 640 international vessels (more by 21 vessel or +0,6 pct year-on-year) and 1 464 domestic ships ( more by 13  ships or 0,9 pct. yoy) were reported to call Klaipeda Port. Throughout the foregoing period of the current year the number of vessels calling Klaipeda Port increased by 10 vessels or by 0,2 pct. comparing with the corresponding period of 2011. The number of passengers calling the Port throughout the analysed period was 280 199, i.e. more by 8,4 pct. or by 21 827 passengers comparing with the corresponding period of 2011. The number of cruise passengers was 26 769, i.e. more by +24,6 pct. or by +5 291 passenger comparing with the corresponding period of the previous year.
