OREANDA-NEWS. October 26, 2012. Mitsubishi Motors Corporation today announced global production, as well as domestic sales and export figures for September 2012.
 
September 2012
Production: total and in Japan
 Total global production for September came in at 105,939 units, 4.6 percent up over September 2011 and the second consecutive monthly year-on-year increase since July this year. Production volume in Japan at 41,955 units was 26.6 percent down, the fourth consecutive monthly year-on-year decrease since May this year. Passenger car output at 36,642 units was 28.6 percent down. Commercial vehicle output at 5,313 units was 9.1 percent down.
 
Sales in Japan
 Vehicle sales in Japan in September totaled 14,037 units, 14.0 percent down on the same month last year and the fifth consecutive monthly year-on-year decline since April this year. Sales of passenger cars at 11,148 units were 13.4 percent down while sales of commercial vehicles at 2,889 units were 16.1 percent down over the same month last year. Registered vehicle sales volume at 8,033 units was 24.0 percent up while minicar sales volume at 6,004 units was 39.0 percent down on the same month last year.
 
Production overseas
 Overseas production volume totaled 63,984 units, 45.0 percent up over September last year and the seventh consecutive monthly year-on-year increase since February this year. By region, output in Asia at 52,015 units was 42.3 percent up year on year boosted chiefly by a 69.6 percent increase at 40,184 units at MMTh in Thailand due to the addition of the new Mirage to the production line. In China, output at 2,304 units was 30.5 percent down on September last year. In North America, output at 4,528 units was 138.2 percent up over the same month last year, due mainly to the full-scale start of production of the new Outlander Sport model. In Europe, output at 2,401units was 23.2 percent up on last year. In South America output at 5,040 units was 36.6 percent up over September last year.
 
Export shipments from Japan
 Total exports from Japan of 32,639 units were 24.5 percent down on September 2011, marking the forth consecutive monthly year-on-year fall since May this year. Exports to Asia at 2,581units were 44.3 percent down year on year. Exports to North America at 3,688 units were 12.8 percent down over September last year. Exports to Europe at 15,532 units were 30.1 percent down year on year.
 
April - September 2012
Production: total and Japan
 The first six months of fiscal 2012 ending September 30 saw total global production of 539,433 units, 3.6 percent up on the same period in 2011 and the first increase in fiscal 1H output in two first-half terms since 1H 2010. Production in Japan totaled 251,287 units, a 10.9 percent year-on-year decrease, and the first consecutive first-half decrease since fiscal IH 2010.
 
Sales in Japan
 Vehicle sales on the Japanese market for the six month period April to September totaled 63,204 units, 11.4 percent down over last year and the first consecutive first-half decrease since fiscal 1H 2011.
 
Production overseas
 Overseas production volume for 1H fiscal 2012 totaled 288,146 units, 20.6 percent up over the same period last year and the second consecutive first-half increase since fiscal 1H 2010. By region, output in Asia at 243,178 units was 30.6 percent up year-on-year, with a 53.9 percent net increase at MMTh in Thailand as 39,045 new Mirage models came off the line. Production in China at 13,018 units was 24.5 percent down on 1H 2011 (17,237 units.) Output in North America at 16,185 units was 19.9 percent down over the same period last year, the decrease being mainly due to the phasing out of old models and introduction of the new Outlander Sport. Output in Europe at 9,943 units was 12.1 percent down year-on-year due to sluggish sales in the region. In South America output at 18,840 units was 6.1 percent down on the same period last year.
 
Export shipments from Japan
 Total export shipments from Japan at 173,873 units were 16.2 percent down over the same period last year, marking the first consecutive first-half decrease since fiscal 1H 2010. Shipments to Asia at 10,219 units were 63.4 percent down year-on-year. Exports to North America at 24,802 units were 14.2 percent down over 1H 2011. Shipments to Europe at 85,058 units were 10.7 percent down on the same period last year.
