OREANDA-NEWS. October 30, 2012. The banking sector of Moldova is focused in four commercial banks whose share makes 63% of all banking assets, IEFS.
The regular edition of the Trends in Economy of Moldova, prepared by the Institute of Economy, Finance and Statistics (IEFS), states that in line with Herfindahl-Hirschman index the concentration of assets is moderate in the market of Moldova.

In January-June, 2012 the banks having the biggest assets were Moldova-Agroindbank, with the 19.1% of assets in the banking system (0.4 p.p. less than in the same period of 2011); Victoriabank – 17.8% (+0.7 p.p.); Moldindconbank – 13,7% (-0.5 p.p.); Banca de Economii – 12.4% (unchanged).

The same banks concentrated the main amount of crediting- lending operations. In January-June, 2012 the biggest amount of loans was extended by Moldova-Agroindbank (22% of the market and 0.4 p.p. up as compared with the same period of the past year). Then follow: Victoriabank – 15.7% (-0.6 p.p.); Moldindconbank – 14.6% (-0.8 p.p.); Eximbank-Gruppo Veneto Banca – 8.8% (+0,2 p.p.) Victoriabank attracted the biggest amount of deposits, with its share being 22%, 1p.p. up as compared with the same period of 2011.

Then follow Moldova-Agroindbank – 18.2% (+0.1 p.p.); Moldindconbank – 15% (-0.3 p.p.); Banca de Economii – 13,7% (-0.2 p.p).

According to the researchers, the banking system evolves generally, but they not some negative results caused by the slowdown in the national economy, escalation of the financial crisis in EU (worse lending portfolios and loan quality, a bigger share of bad credits, etc).
