OREANDA-NEWS. November 6, 2012. OMZ Izhora company, part of OMZ Group, successfully completes production of pilot joints for the first power unit of Novovoronezhskaya NPP-2 on order of Izhorskie Zavody.

Pilot joints are aimed at monitoring changes in the mechanical properties of the metal used for production of reactor vessel.

Production of joints was carried out for 4 months and was successfully completed by the signing of the joint acts of acceptance. Totally OMZ Izhora produced more than four thousand pilot joints for impact tests and fracture toughness tests.

For the first time ever OMZ Izhora conducted production of the most part of pilot joints without attracting third parties. In this case pilot joints of complex geometric shapes for crack resistance were produced by OMZ Izhora.

This task was preceded by a preparation period. Purchase of unique metal and test equipment was made: AR-1300 wire-cut EDM machine (SODICK, Sweden) and high frequency pulsator Amsler 50HFP5100 (Zwick/Roel, Germany). The company developed new technology of making an initiating incision and deposition process of fatigue cracks on the pilot joints for crack resistance.

The quality of the pilot joints meets the highest requirements.
