OREANDA-NEWS. November 08, 2012. This is stipulated by the resolution of the government of Moldova. According to Minister of IT and Communication of Moldova Pavel Filip, the rates are being updated because since 2008, when the services went in prices last time, power, petrol, auto spares, wages to the personnel and other factors have increased.

Raising the rates by 30% is expected to bring postal services into compliance with real costs the enterprise is bearing. According to Pavel Filip, sending a letter at a weight up to 20 gr. costs 1.2 leis, but the real cost of this service is 1.75 leis.

Applying current rates Posta Moldovei is working at losses. For example, in 2011 they made up 10 mln. leis, and, by rough estimates, will amount to 17 mln. leis in 2012. New rates will grow by 30% for sending letters at a weight of 20 to 500 gr. And will make up 1.75 – 6.5. leis. The rate for sending letters over 500 gr. will stay unchanged. At the same time, 50% discount will be kept as sending printings to libraries and sending children periodicals. The new rates will come into effect after the resolution being published in Monitorul Oficial.

Rates for postal services are similar for individuals and legal entities. The total amount of letters and parcels sent in Moldova includes 90% falling on legal entities and 10% falling on individuals. According to statistics, people of Moldova sent 2 letters upon average every year. In 2011 the total amount of 43,2 mln. letters included 13 mln. sent by Moldtelecom, 9 mon by Gas Natural Fenosa and 2.4 mln. by Orange Moldova.
