OREANDA-NEWS. November 23, 2012. Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company, has once again taken a unique step towards extending healthcare services to the people living in and around its areas of operation.

Tata Power's Maithon power project team has recently started a mobile medical unit (MMU) to provide free medical consultancy, health check-ups and treatment of non-chronic diseases, along with distribution of required medicines, across the villages and areas adjoining the plant.

On a regular basis, the MMU will aim to visit two camps per day, and all the adjoining villages will be covered in 12 camps over a period of six days. The MMU will be equipped with doctors, pharmacists and nurses and all required medicines to treat the patients.

Apart from medical treatment, a health awareness programme will be conducted through meetings called Nukar Natak. Audio-visual shows will be organised to provide information on fire safety, especially during domestic use, safe practices and educational awareness on food habits during pregnancy and safe sanitation practices.

Speaking on the occasion, Bhaskar Sarkar, CEO, Maithon Power, said, “The MMUs are a primary healthcare centre on wheels for our communities and will help us reach out to them with the required help in time. We hope to provide free healthcare support to the locals and villagers with special focus on women and children.”
